August 2008

Check out these fabulous necklaces! They are made by using a layer of rubber and silkscreening on fabric. Because they're made of rubber they conform Korte Avondjurken to the body. They come in a bunch of different colors and texture variations.

The necklaces are made by Amsterdam based artist, Uli Nu. Her inspiration comes from classic 16th century designs. She also designs fabric using old and new printing techniques.

So today is the day. I woke up early enough that I don't have to rush out the door. I'm wearing a very simple black dress I got from h (it has pockets :), my hello kitty necklace, and polka dotted vans with pink socks. I went through every pair of shoes I owned before picking them. I was gonna wear these black fancier ones I have, but the whole look just wasn't me. I felt tooooo over done. So I decided on the vans b/c they make the whole outfit look more Melissa. Hope that's okay Mom :) I'm sure with future outfits I'll dress up more, but just on the first day I needed something that felt comfy.

Oh and the photo included in this post is my new hair do and Cocktailjurken 2013 glasses from the Shepherd yearbook. Don't I look lovely. hehe just kidding. I did that on yearbook yourself.

K, here I go! Wish me luck!! xoxo

Sorry to anyone who hasn't watched yet, but I couldn't help but express my sadness that Kelli got eliminated today. I really liked her and thought she was a fresh new kind of personality to hit project runway. She had a unique perspective and and interesting aesthetic. Or maybe it's just because I liked her tattoos. I always love when people get tattoos related to their profession. Kelli has fabric scissors tattooed on her arm and I've seen other fashion designers with spools of thread. I always wonder what a graphic designer could get. a mac powerbook? an xacto knife? spray glue? hmmmm. Even though yes, the outfit wasn't so good, Kelli did not deserve to go. That dumb guy Daniel always looks so scared. I did like his blue plastic cup dress, but ew he's the one that did the purple stewardess cocktail dress for the Olympic challenge. Blah on him.

But I'm sure Kelli will go on to do great things even though she won't make it to the end. I was checking out her fashions from before the show and she made some amazing stuff. I like how she uses split voor Prom Dresses bleach and dye to add splatters and visual texture to her fabric. Bye Kelli, I'll miss you!

Here's a little look into some of my favorite new things in my new apartment. First of all, these lovely chairs. They are in the sweet shades of lavendar, pink, and sea blue, and mint green (not pictured). The chairs came from my mom's friend, Rita. When I first saw them, they were just plain regular old wooden chairs. My mom described them as looking "colonial". They just weren't really my style. So my mom had the idea that it would be fun to paint the chairs different colors to brighten up my kitchen. So I took a trip to Lowe's with my parents and picked out four of my favorite colors. My dad did all the dirty work. He sanded, primed, and painted the chairs and they came out great! They are a lovely addition to my little kitchen!

Just got back from a lovely weekend of camping up at Ricketts Glen, up past the poconos in Pennsylvania. We took a hike on the Falls Trail, where we saw a number of beautiful waterfalls including one that was 94 feet tall! It was absolutely beautiful! We also went kayaking around Lake Jean. It was fun because Lopan (Laurie and Joey's french bulldog) came with us and he went for a swim from their canoe to my kayak.

We stayed at Good's Campground. I guess I've been spoiled camping down at the beach with their large clean bath houses. Camping at Good's I had to get used to "using the bathroom" behind Tyler's car. Everyone cooked a lot of food and I ate a lot of it. The food was delicious and had that perfect campfire flavor to it. Of course my favorite was making s'mores! During our stay we celebrated Kelly's 30th birthday. It was a lot of fun and we even got to wear hello kitty birthday hats thanks to Jean. I forgot my camera so I had to steal the above photos from Kelly's myspace.
